SOME POWER KITE LOCATIONS THAT WE HAVE VISITED

WESTWARD HO! NR BIDEFORD, NORTH DEVON

Possibly one of the best beach locations in the uk,

Anyone using the beach must have 3rd party insurance.

All land users (buggies and landboarders) must wear a helmet.

Lei kites may be pumped up on the burrows and carried over the pebble ridge but no kites are to be flown on the burrows or flown over the ridge. Kites to be flown on the beach only.

A 100m clear path must be maintained from the pebble ridge as shown beside in red at all times. This is to allow walkers safe passage up the beach and is a golden rule of Westward Ho!

Commercal kite schools operating from Westward Ho! must have insurance and the relevent permit from Torridge District Council before teaching. This includes visiting schools.

Winter 1st October to 31st May. We have all the beach and all the water to play with....Yipieee!! Except the golden 100, from the ridge.

Summer 1st June to 30th September. Due to the number of surf schools, beach users and holiday makers kiting is only allowed above the red line. This line is roughly in line with the higher access road (black line) or 200 m north of the walkway that goes over the pebble ridge by the lifeguard hut. This still gives a large area of beach and the lifeguards help to police this to prevent personal injury to the many swimmers. If you are not sure ask a local lifeguard and they will help you.

Use common sense! No one should be out with a tape measure to find the 100 and 200 m but these are there to provide a buffer zone allowing people to walk dogs, play with kids, sunbathe etc without getting injured by crashing kites and out of control kiters!

BAITER PARK, POOLE, DORSET

Our local flying site, all kite users must fly to the left (if stood facing the sea)

of the toilet block. good crisp winds here as the flat grass area juts out from the land slightly to give clean winds from the sea.  Landboard and buggy pilots are advised to wear helmets and to have 3rd party insurance.

PORT SOLENT, PORTSMOUTH, HAMPSHIRE

Flat grass area ideal for buggying and landboarding with ample parking, no current rules or regulations, southerly winds are preferable. Free parking

KING GEORGES PLAYING FIELDS,FERNDOWN, DORSET

Over two fields this is a good location for flying, beware of rugby and football goals in the winter months, as far as we are aware there is no rules or regulations here apart from the obvious to respect the dog walkers!!  Free parking
